Jump Kit Radio

These next photos show a Yaesu FT-100 rig and Astron Power Supply. The rig is housed in a sportsman drybox for portabablity. This radio provides HF, VHF and UHF communications for emergency situations. It can easily be powered using the battery backup shown in case of a power outage.

Battery power can be quickly connected to the radio using Anderson Power Pole connectors and the RigRunner distribution visible in this photo.

Inside Antenna

A 5/8 wave VHF whip antenna is mounted inside the garage for use at times when lightening damage from outside antennas is a possibility. The antenna is a Larsen NMO magnetic mount. The base of the antenna is about 4 feet off of the garage floor.

Antenna Base

A metal shelf plate is used to provide a small ground plane and mounting position for the inside whip antenna.

Battery Power

This battery case with an LED battery charge indicator built into the top of the case lid is used to store a backup battery. The case is a Sea Sense Power Station Deluxe Battery Box. I purchased the case from Bass Pro on-line. The cost is approximately $40.00

Yuasa Sealed Battery

To provide backup power as well as power during severe thuunder storms I use a Yuasa sealed battery. I chose a 17.2Ah battery for this application.

Voltage Distribution

A Rig Runner with Anderson Power Pole connectors provides an easy way to switch between the station 12 volt power supply and the emergency battery as a power source.
